Briefing and preparation
The crew explains how to control the jet ski, safe distances, the guide's signals and how to behave when leaving the harbour and riding over waves.
Jet ski trips in Tenerife always take place with a guide. You cannot hire a jet ski to head out alone and choose your own route – participants form an organised group and follow the guide.
Trips differ in duration, departure port, route, requirements and pricing method. This guide explains what to expect in different parts of the island, how to choose a single or double jet ski, what affects the price and which safety rules participants must follow.
Regardless of the port and trip duration, this is not an unrestricted jet ski rental. The group receives a briefing, sets off together and remains under the guide's supervision throughout the trip.
The crew explains how to control the jet ski, safe distances, the guide's signals and how to behave when leaving the harbour and riding over waves.
Jet skis travel in an agreed order behind the guide. Overtaking, leaving the group or choosing another route is not permitted.
The direction and pace depend on the port, trip duration, the group's ability and current ocean conditions.
The longer option is not automatically better for everyone. Your choice should depend on experience, fitness, budget, susceptibility to fatigue and your plan for the day. Shorter rides and trips lasting three hours or more may also be available in some locations.
A good choice for first-time riders, people with limited time and anyone who wants to combine jet skiing with another attraction on the same day.
For people who want to spend more time on the ocean and see a longer stretch of the southern coast. It requires greater stamina.
Choose one hour if it is your first time or you want a short, dynamic activity.Choose two hours if riding on the ocean is meant to be the main activity of the day and you cope well with longer physical effort.
Before booking, check whether you are choosing a jet ski for one person or an option with a passenger. These are two different experiences and may be priced differently.

Spanish rules set the basic age requirement for the driver. However, an operator may apply stricter conditions, while the passenger's minimum age, height or weight depends on the specific service rules and jet ski model.
You do not need a boating licence or previous experience to join a guided tourist jet ski trip. Before departure, every driver receives a briefing and must follow the guide's instructions.
You must, however, meet the age requirements, present identification and – for a person aged 16–17 – have the required consent from a parent or guardian. The operator may impose stricter conditions.
Arrival at the harbour, booking confirmation and document check.
Explanation of jet ski controls, guide signals, distances and safety rules.
A calm start and positioning the group according to the crew's instructions.
Riding a designated route along the coast and then returning to the harbour.

Prices change quickly and mean little without context. Two apparently similar offers may include a different amount of actual riding time, a different number of participants or different extras.
Jet ski safaris may start from different ports on Tenerife's southern and western coasts. The location affects the meeting point, travel time and the stretch of coast you will see. Always check the port stated in the selected offer – not every route starts in the same place.

Important:the name of the port does not guarantee a particular bay or destination. The operator may shorten, alter or cancel the route when required by waves, wind, visibility, marine traffic or decisions of the maritime authorities.
The mild climate means jet ski trips can operate throughout the year, but availability does not guarantee departure every day. Wind, wave height and direction, visibility and local conditions at the harbour entrance matter more than air temperature.
Sunshine on the beach does not always mean a calm ocean. There is also no universal rule that every morning slot will be better than an afternoon one. The crew makes the final decision based on conditions in that area, and the exact route may change immediately before departure.

Spanish rules require both the driver and passenger to wear approved life jackets. On group trips, jet skis travel in a line behind the guide without overtaking; the regulations require at least one guide for every four jet skis.
Jet skiing is generally unsuitable for pregnant women and people with serious back, heart or balance problems or recent injuries. The operator sets the detailed contraindications. If you have a medical condition or doubts, consult a doctor and the organiser before booking.
You may encounter wild animals by chance while on the ocean, but a jet ski safari is not a wildlife-watching cruise. Do not book this activity expecting to see dolphins, whales or turtles. Their presence cannot be guaranteed, and the route and pace are determined primarily by safety rules.
Yes. Safaris are also available to beginners. A briefing takes place before departure, and you must follow the guide's instructions while riding.
No. Tourist jet ski trips in Tenerife take place in organised groups with a guide. Participants do not choose their own route and cannot leave the group.
No boating licence is required to join a guided tourist safari. However, the briefing, age requirements, identification and the operator's rules still apply.
Yes, if the selected option is a double, the manufacturer allows a passenger and both people meet the operator's requirements. Confirm the age, height and minor-participant rules before booking.
A life jacket is compulsory, but check the operator's detailed requirements before booking and tell the crew about any concerns.
Do not assume this is possible. Changing drivers depends on the operator's rules, the participants' ages and the organisation of the trip. Confirm it before booking.
It depends on the operator and option. Some prices apply to one single jet ski, others to a double jet ski or to each participant. Always check the pricing method before payment.
Yes. The departure port and stated direction do not guarantee reaching a specific location. Waves, wind, visibility, marine traffic and the guide's decision may affect the route.
The operator decides on the basis of ocean conditions. The route, departure time or date may be changed. Check the current cancellation rules when booking.
For a first ride or a tight schedule, one hour is usually enough. Choose two hours if you want a longer ride and cope well with physical effort on waves.
