If you are staying in the south
You can follow the itinerary in the order shown. Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos are convenient bases for cruises, parks and excursions to the west of the island.
One week is enough to discover several completely different sides of Tenerife — the island’s volcanic heart, green Anaga, historic towns, the Los Gigantes cliffs, southern beaches and an ocean inhabited by dolphins and whales.
This itinerary is not a race between every point on the map. Each day has one main direction, a sensible number of stops and time to rest. You can change the order according to where you are staying, the weather, ticket availability and your own pace.
The south, a promenade and a beach after arrival.
Teide, the ocean, Masca and the west coast.
La Laguna, Anaga, La Orotava and Puerto de la Cruz.
A park, beach, water sport or paragliding flight.
Tenerife is compact, but mountain roads, large changes in altitude, traffic and finding parking make journeys longer. That is why we do not combine Teide, Anaga, Masca and the north in one day. Instead, we group places geographically and leave a margin for unexpected changes.
You can follow the itinerary in the order shown. Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos are convenient bases for cruises, parks and excursions to the west of the island.
Begin with days 5 and 6, then move the south, ocean and west to later in the week. This will reduce long journeys during your first days.
Cable-car tickets, permits for regulated trails, cruises, parks and organised tours may require advance booking. Keep beaches, towns and viewpoints more flexible so you can respond to the weather.

Do not plan your longest drive just after travelling. Use the first day to explore your immediate surroundings, shop, rest and check how long it takes to walk to the bus stop, beach or tour meeting point.
If you arrive in the morning with plenty of energy, choose one beach and a short walk. Do not try to visit every resort in one afternoon — a calm beginning and an early night before your mountain trip will be more rewarding.

Teide deserves a day of its own. The road itself is part of the experience: the landscape changes from pine forest to the stark Las Cañadas caldera. The key stops are viewpoints, Roques de García, the area around the cable car’s lower station and short routes suited to your time and fitness.
Do not assume that a cable-car ticket includes access to the summit itself. Access to some trails is regulated, and conditions may change because of weather, snow, ice or decisions by park authorities. Bring layered clothing, water, sun protection and closed shoes.

The waters between Tenerife and La Gomera are one of the most important places for observing cetaceans in their natural environment. A cruise may last from around two hours to most of the day. A shorter option leaves time for the beach, while a longer one may include a wider route, swimming and views of the cliffs.
Wild animals do not appear on demand, so no species or number of sightings can honestly be guaranteed. Choose legal operators, follow the crew’s instructions and do not treat close contact with wildlife as a condition of a successful cruise.
Sun cream, a hat, a light windproof layer, water, a towel and motion-sickness medicine if you usually need it. Arrive at the meeting point with plenty of time.
The west and north-west offer the island’s most dramatic scenery, but it is not worth forcing in every stop. Masca, a viewpoint over the Los Gigantes cliffs and Garachico form a logical core for the day. Add La Orotava only if you leave early and do not plan long stops.

Important: the hike down the Masca gorge is a separate, demanding activity with its own access rules. Do not treat it as a short addition to a driving tour. If you prefer to enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace, an organised tour with a driver may be the better choice.
San Cristóbal de La Laguna and Anaga work well together in one day. Walk through La Laguna’s historic centre in the morning, then continue towards Anaga’s viewpoints and laurel forests. The mountain weather can be damp and cooler than in the south.

In Anaga, the landscape, changing vegetation and unhurried pace matter most. Choose one short walk, two or three viewpoints and a safe return before dark. In fog, do not try to catch up with your schedule by driving faster.

After an intensive day in Anaga, give the next day a slower northern rhythm. In Puerto de la Cruz, you can walk through the old town, see the harbour, the Lago Martiánez area and the coast. If you skipped La Orotava the previous day, it is easy to add it now as a separate, relaxed stop.
An alternative is a beach-and-nature day: Playa Jardín, Playa El Bollullo or one of the lava pools. Conditions on the north coast can be more dynamic than in the sheltered bays of the south. Always check the flag and lifeguard notices.
Keep your final full day flexible. This lets you revisit a place missed because of the weather or choose an experience best suited to the participants’ ages, budget and activity level.
Siam Park, Loro Parque, Aqualand, Jungle Park or Forestal Park — choose one park for the whole day.
Compare parks and tickets →Kayaking, snorkelling, wakeboarding or another ocean activity. Check the requirements and meeting point.
See water sports →A tandem flight with an instructor lets you see the coast from a different perspective. Operation depends on weather conditions.
Compare paragliding flights →If you need to rest after six days, simply choose a beach, a long lunch and a sunset walk. A good itinerary does not have to use every free hour.
The same island can give completely different holidays to a family with children, a couple, an active group and travellers who prefer relaxed sightseeing. Do not copy the itinerary without changes — choose the version that suits your group best.
Allow longer beach stops, shorten the day in Anaga and do not combine Masca with La Orotava. Set aside one full day for a park and plan a quiet morning after an intensive excursion. When booking, check age requirements, whether a pushchair can be taken and the transfer area.
Combine sunrise or a morning on Teide with dinner somewhere peaceful, choose a smaller vessel for your ocean trip and leave time for sunset. Instead of visiting two towns in one day, spend longer in La Laguna or Garachico.
Compare yacht cruises →Choose one demanding trail, one water-sports day and one gentler activity. Do not plan a hard trek immediately before a two-hour safari on the waves. Fitness, altitude, sun and wind affect fatigue more than the route’s length alone suggests.
Instead of chasing a number of visited places, choose a local market, a historic centre and a long lunch. A private tour can reduce the stress of mountain roads, while a hotel in the centre of a resort makes evening walks without a car easier.

Papas arrugadas with mojo sauces, goat’s cheese, fresh fish, stews, gofio and local wines reveal Tenerife as effectively as its viewpoints. In the north, look for a traditional guachinche, but check its opening hours and how to get there first.
Do not choose a restaurant solely for its view. Check the current menu, reservation policy and reviews of the specific venue. If you have allergies or a special diet, confirm the ingredients directly with the staff.
If theme parks do not interest you or you have an extra day, combine the capital with Playa de Las Teresitas. Visit the market, central Santa Cruz and a selected museum in the morning, then continue to the beach beneath the Anaga Mountains. It combines an urban atmosphere with a peaceful afternoon by the ocean.
You do not need a car to explore Santa Cruz. Parking can be convenient if you continue to the beach, but the centre is best explored on foot or by public transport. Do not add this day to La Laguna and the whole of Anaga if you want to sightsee without rushing.

The entire itinerary is possible without hiring a car, but it requires different planning. The southern resorts, Santa Cruz, La Laguna and Puerto de la Cruz have bus connections. For Teide, Masca, Garachico and Anaga, excursions with pickup or a combination of bus and taxi may be more convenient.
Check the walking route after dark too.
Avoid several distant connections.
Transport and the route are organised.
Do not rely on the last bus without an alternative.

Combine the easy southern day with the final day of choice. Keep Teide, the ocean, the west of the island and La Laguna with Anaga. Add Puerto de la Cruz to the western or northern route only if your group’s pace allows.
Separate Masca and Garachico from La Orotava, devote a separate day to a park or water activity, add Santa Cruz with Playa de Las Teresitas and keep one full day without scheduled attractions.
Tenerife is at its most beautiful when you do not see it solely as a checklist. Clouds may reveal a view only after an hour, an unplanned stop may lead to a small restaurant, and a quiet evening on the promenade can become a better memory than another hour in the car.

Yes. A week lets you see the main regions while keeping time to rest. It is not enough for every beach, trail and park, however, so set your priorities.
The south offers a large choice of attractions, cruises and more stable weather, while the north has greener landscapes and a more urban character. With one hotel, the south can be the easier logistical base, but the right choice depends on your itinerary.
It is not necessary. Two bases — south and north — reduce some journeys but involve packing and changing accommodation. For a first visit, one hotel and well-grouped days are usually simpler.
Usually Teide, because the cable car and regulated trails have limited availability. During popular periods, it is also worth booking your cruise, chosen park and pickup tour in advance.
Swap the days around. When Teide is cloudy or restrictions apply, choose a town, park or relaxed day on the coast. Conditions in different parts of the island can be completely different.
Yes, but stops should be shorter and the order adapted to the children’s ages. A long tour of Masca and Garachico can be replaced with a park, beach or shorter excursion with transport.
